PIX is about photographs. It's about life, about family, about memories. It's about humanity and similarities and uniqueness. It's about art, about representation, about perception.
PIX is not an island, entire of itself (Thank you, John Donne).
So in that spirit, let's talk about things outside of the realm of PIX.
Sophie and I spent last night exchanging thoughts, ideas and contact information with creatives of Nuremberg, Germany, and there is some pretty fun and fancy stuff happening in our little Franconian world, so let me start with that...
We met the lovely Christina Lenz, a sleep councelor, who is running a project in which she collects candid pictures of bedrooms around the world. Unlike PIX, she is looking for images not featuring people, but taken by people of their own bedrooms, the way they see them. They don't need to be made or tidied up, they just need to be how you see and keep them. Check out her website and go ahead and send her a picture of your own sleepyland (be sure to tell her what city and country you live in, that is all the info she needs)
We also met Thorsten Weiß who is producing and directing a Western film on condom usage, which, if you ask me, is the only proper topic for a good Western. And even though his cast does not include Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer, we still like his idea, and you might wish to take a peek as well.
There were more excellent people presenting, but I either did not jot down their contact info fast enough, or their doings would not be too interesting for those of you out of the vicinity.
But I am not yet done. Oh no.

The Photo Man from Ben Kitnick on Vimeo.
This is a lovely video about the Photo Man, which I came across via PostSecret. I am a nostalgic person in love with photos and found things, and this speaks to all of that, and fits so beautifully into the PIX context.
Along similar lines, I strongly encourage you to take a look at this article on NPR's website about an art exhibition about the photographs of war.
PIX tries to focus on the bright side, the trivialities, the fact that in all of our lives we have some amount of friendship, families, love and holiday celebrations, and in our photo album, we try to capture the diversity of these things that connect us all.
'"Wars don't end," says Tucker. "You carry them with you. Our fathers' wars are our wars and our wars are our children's wars,"' it reads in the article, and when you flip through the photos you will see people from around the world affected by war, living with and within war, and in some strange way, the theme of war connects them. But as destructive and all-encompassing as war is, is not the only theme in the lives of those affected as this photo from the collection shows so poignantly.
For more on the lives of Veterans I strongly encourage you to look at the facebook page of VFW Magazine, which is run by my very good friend Kelly Gibson, who is excellent at finding and sharing great meaningful articles and information.
Need a break of trivial nothingness after this? Look at Nicolas Cage as Disney princesses.
You're welcome.

Finally, not at all related to PIX, except that I like both PIX and the Oatmeal (I AM THE CONNECTOR OF ALL THINGS), I ask you to read this Oatmeal comic. Read all six parts, and then contemplate what you're "running" is. I've heard people say it's how they perceive writing, or roller derby, and I like the idea of it being an oatmealy allegory for this thing we do, because we can't not do it. And to fight the blerch and to defeat the kraken.
This is all of my outreach and connecting and recommending for today. Now please go back to scanning all your photos and sending them to us, and applying to become a part of our cast or crew. And get ready for the PIX Indiegogo that will come at you in a few days. EXCITEMENT!
With the most sincere PIXy regards,
Anne
